SAFETY

Safety is our First Priority

Ivaco Rolling Mills’ first priority is to provide a safe working environment to ensure that all employees return home safely at the end of the day. In support of this, the Company has established a Safety and Health Control General Policy.

Safety and Health Control Policy

Ivaco Rolling Mills is committed to the protection from accidental loss of all its resources including employees and physical assets. In fulfilling this commitment to protect both people and property, we will provide and maintain a safe and healthful work environment as indicated by acceptable industry standards and compliance with legislative requirements. All employees are equally responsible for loss prevention and minimizing accidents within our facilities. Safe job procedures will be clearly defined for all employees to follow. Loss prevention is the direct responsibility of all line managers and employees alike. Training programs with respect to this policy will be expanded or provided as necessary in order to create and maintain interest and enthusiasm and to maintain the required degree of knowledge with evolving safety laws and regulations and improved practices.

Accessibility Standard for Customer Service

Ivaco Rolling Mills is committed to providing quality products and services that are accessible to all persons that we serve.  We are dedicated to being responsible to the needs of all our customers and visitors.  Our Policy and other documents concerning the Accessibility Standard for Customer Service are available for viewing on site located at the main guardhouse.

Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC)

Great pride is taken in supporting two Joint Health and Safety Committees, one representing the safety concerns of the steel plant, the other addressing the concerns of our rod mill. The objective of this partnership between Management and the employees is to promote a safer working environment.

Emergency Response Team

Ivaco Rolling Mills has a well-established Emergency Response Team (ERT) that has, since its beginning in 1995, continued to improve its technical rescue training to remain above industry standards. The ERT team provides continuous coverage at both the steel plant and rod mill. The team members are trained by the Advanced Technical Rescue School of Canada, the same institute that is involved in the training of firefighters and search and rescue teams across Canada. ERT members are trained in first aid, confined space, high angle rescue, air monitoring and fire suppression.

Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT)

Ivaco Rolling Mills is proud to be a partner with the Government of the United States in protecting America and the steel industry against acts of terrorism. A member since 2004, Ivaco Rolling Mills has adopted the necessary security measures established by U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and will continue to work towards the security of its facilities.

Workplace Violence and Harassment Policy

In 2010, the Company adopted this policy from the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act. By initiating an effective workplace violence and harassment program we aim to reduce and eliminate the risk of incident occurrence.

Near Miss Program

Implemented in 2009, this program was introduced as a proactive approach in incident / accident prevention. Individuals with access to Company property are strongly encouraged to report all potential safety and health hazards through the near miss program. All submissions are reviewed, prioritized and addressed. The corrective actions taken have been instrumental in improving the safety of our workplace.

The successful integration of these programs and policies has enhanced the awareness of all employees to the importance of a safe and healthy work environment. Ivaco Rolling Mills remains committed to investing in its employees and facilities striving towards an accident free workplace.
